Control Algorithm for Assessing the Combat Capability of Military Units
Abstract
Purpose. Substantiation and development of a control algorithm for assessing the combat capability of military units for the purpose of planning and conducting organizational-technical measures aimed at maintaining and restoring their combat capability.
Method. The study employed a systematic and comparative analysis of existing approaches to assessing the combat capability of units, methods of structural-functional synthesis and mathematical modeling and algorithmization for developing a control assessment algorithm, as well as probabilistic methods for evaluating potential technical capacity and the level of professional and moral-psychological training of personnel.
Findings. The work proposes a control algorithm, structurally composed of 13 blocks located at 5 hierarchical levels. The algorithm implements a sequence of actions: information collection and analysis, separate assessments of potential technical capacity and the level of professional and moral-psychological training, an integrated assessment of the level of combat capability, and the formation and adjustment of management decisions. Analytical dependencies for calculating potential technical capacity and the level of professional and moral-psychological training have been derived, allowing for a quantitative assessment of the unit's state. Three degrees of combat capability (combat-capable, limited combat-capable, non-combat-capable) have been defined based on an integral indicator and critical losses.
Practical implications. The obtained results can be used by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, and other components of the defense forces. The control algorithm is a tool for command and staffs to objectively assess the state of units, plan organizational-technical measures for maintaining and restoring combat capability, and make informed decisions regarding the application of forces.
Future Research. Further research should be directed towards developing practical recommendations and effective methods for maintaining and restoring the combat capability of military units.
