Developing Cross-Cultural Competence of Special Operations Forces Officers as a Factor of Operational Effectiveness: Evidence from an Experimental Study
Abstract
Purpose. To experimentally verify the impact of a conceptual model for developing cross-cultural competence, based on digital and AI-driven technologies, on the operational effectiveness of Special Operations Forces officers.
Method. The research was conducted as a pedagogical experiment using both quantitative and qualitative methods, including testing, questionnaires, observation, expert assessment, and statistical analysis. The sample consisted of experimental and control groups of officers (22 participants each). During the formative stage, the author’s “Shadow Network” training program with digital simulation tools was implemented.
Findings. The experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant increase in the integrated cross-cultural competence indicator compared to the control group. The greatest improvements were observed in sociocultural sensitivity, adaptability, communication skills, empathy, and conflict-resolution abilities. The Mann–Whitney U test confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.
Theoretical implications. The study expands the conceptual understanding of the structure of cross-cultural competence among SOF officers and substantiates the possibility of its targeted development through digital educational technologies.
Practical implications. The proposed model and training program can be integrated into Special Operations Forces officer training systems to enhance operational effectiveness in multicultural environments.
Value. The results confirm the effectiveness of integrating digital technologies into Special Operations Forces officer training and substantiate the relationship between cross-cultural competence development and enhanced operational capability in multicultural environments.
